Check-Engine from running out of gas 850 1997

Try driving the car for a few days under a variety of conditions (speed ranges, acceleration, stopping) so the control system gets exercised enough to run through all of its performance tests a few times. Just restarting is not enough to reset the codes that are connected with ongoing performance monitoring. Had this experience during a recent highway trip when we left the gas cap loose after a fillup. Light went out the next day.
