Mystery Solved

My battery was shot and I was actually on my way to the autoparts store for a new one when the car first died. I ignored the battery while trying to determine the cause of the "more serious problem". This past weekend, I was making the trip to pickup some parts for another car and decided to go ahead and get a new battery at the same time. When I went to remove the old battery, I discovered that the red wire on the positive terminal had broken off due to corrosion. I put a new terminal on the end of the wire, installed the new battery and everything has been fine since.

It looks like Pat wins the prize. I thought my situation was unique until I read his response.
