Ooooohhh Yeah! I DEFINITELY know what you mean about that alternator!!!!!
I did both jobs today, and oh my dear Lord! (You know, car manufacturers these days must have people on their full time payroll just to figure out how to cram all that crap into today's engine compartments!!!) I can't believe that when spring/summer rolls back around, I'm going to have to replace the a/c compressor, and I'll have to deal with this crap all over again.
But, as far as the starter goes, I'm stuck. I put everything back together, cleaned up, etc., and went to start the car. Nothing. AAAAAARRRGGGHH!!!
Now, by "nothing", I mean the starter wouldn't engage at all. I have power, but when you turn the key all the way, the headlights, etc., go OUT, and nothing happens. (At least with the old starter, I could get SOME response.) So, my first thought was to put a voltmeter on the battery----since the lights going COMPLETELY out (as opposed to dim) can be a sign that the battery doesn't have enough juice. My readings were 12.13 volts. Hmmmmm, so what now?
I DID notice that you mentioned in your response: "You just have to remember that there are 3 lines .. two red and one white which connects to the solenoid. There is also a green one which attaches to a spade bit." But, when I removed the old starter, the only wires I remember were the green "spade bit" (which I guess is ground), and a main red wire, which has a screw/blade connector that fits between two metal strips/blades, and whereby the whole thing bolts to the solenoid.
Is it possible that I missed something, or could my car have a different variation of the wiring? Or, is it possible that my replacement starter is bad as well?
