Did you try boosting the car? Attaching another working car battery might work.
Where did you get the replacement starter from? Is it used or new?
As far as connections, they might all be one connection but look closer. There should be 2 red lines as thick as the battery cable coming out of it from the wiring harness. One goes to the battery the other is inline to the alternator. The other white one is also bolted in there and i think its for the ignition.
If you did the alternator then make sure that the red thick cable is connected and then you also have another spade bit to attach to it.
If your connections are good then i would suggest taking the starter out and getting it tested... or try the old trick if its old and have someone knock the body of the unit with a hammer while you try to turn it over.
