A-C mechanic needs help 850

You should be able to add freon yourself to the car.

If you really don't want to mess with it, and the AC shop is going to evacuate and recharge the system, then I would replace the receiver/dryer and orifice tube at the same time. Buy these parts yourself online (pretty cheap parts)and have the AC shop do it, it should not cost much more for labor. The receiver/dryer and orifice tube in a 12 year old car are probably all dirty and not working properly.
