Heater blower not working 850

Hey Klaus and others,
My blower is making a high whining sound. Not sure if it is a bearing or perhaps an obstruction in an airway somewhere. You mentioned that the blower failing can fry the resistor unit.
Any suggestion on a diagnosis that might save me from replacing both?
