Climate Control issues S70

Hey all, I have a slight problem with my manual climate control unit. Sometimes, when I start the car, the ac will not turn on. The piece that controls the vents seems to be affected as well, sometimes it will turn to defrost automatically. I usuall yhave to turn the car off and let it sit for a few seconds and thent ry to restart it. Any ideas what's wrong?

Anyone know how to remove the MCC unit from the dash?
