Remote programming 850 1997

Don't mean to nit pick, but my experience has been that the car gets programed, not the remote. Case in point:
My wifes remote would not work any more, so I gave her mine. Programmed it the obvious way. Guess what. Now if both cars are in the garage, and she uses the remote, both cars respond. If mine was unlocked and hers was locked, she hits the button, now mine is locked and hers is unlocked.
Hope this isn't an anomaly.
