Strut question, wisdom needed V70-XC70 1998

I just took my left handed monkey wrench to the nut on top of the strut tower, visible in the engine bay. The driver's side didn't move, the passenger side turned freely and made a horrible scruntching noise - rubber on metal. It squeeks, so it will be replaced.

The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are a 95 854T and a 98 V70R :)
