New to brickboard and looking for advice V70-XC70

The V70's I believe were the object of a lawsuit over the Electronic Throttle Module, a strange over-engineered device for controlling the throttle. Volvo generously agreed to cover the thing under warrantee. Ask if they are using the original ETM or did they replace it. Then ask if they are using the original ABS module, an $800 fix that will shut the dashboard off (excepting the odometer) if it breaks, among other things. Ask if the timing belt has ever been replaced because on those cars, if an old belt breaks, the valves and pistons collide and the valve guides lose out and this is thousands to repair. At 140K I was still driving the original timing belt. At 119K miles, my ABS module and ETM went out within a week of each other and the cost was around $2000. Volvo later reimbursed me for the ETM for about $800. Later still, the car was recalled for a re-programming of the ETM which is not a do it yourself item. Then it was recalled again for a light switch capable of overheating. The dealer put in a new one free. Ask if the struts have ever been replaced or the front rotors. They can be a bit painful to own at times but an excellent highway car.
