You can do one of three things: 1) Replace it, 2) Stop it at the top of the arch put a 2x4 under the arm and bend it or 3) Get a Dremil tool with a small grinder wheel or small file and file down the stops on the support arm. This will allow the springe to pull the arm down further. But it's all just a temporary fix. It'll just keep on bending. Don't know if certain years are better than others but it just seems to not be designed strong enough.
