Cautious about beginning a political thread here ..... but:
Other consequences of ethano-mania are
--increasing refinery demand for corn which raises the price of animal feed and other corn-related products. That results in higher prices across the board at your grocery store for meats, produce, etc..
--increased fertilizer run-off pollution as more and more acreage is placed into corn production.
--increased prices for other crops as the demand for corn acreage reduces acreage for those products.
All in all, a triumph of misguided good intentions over basic science and economics.
Despite a host of very negative economic and ecological consequences, doesn't it just make you really feel good and warm inside to know that we are finally doing something about alternative fuels?!?!?! Let's all give ourselves a well-deserved pat on the back.
