If you switch the AC off for 5 minutes and turn it on again, it should blow cold. If it does that it could be a evap valve freezing up.
More than likely, it is the compressor clutch that is giving you problems. Drive it this weekend until it gets hot. Then leave the car running with the AC on at max and check to see if the clutch plate is spinning. If not, use a broom handle or narrow ling stick, and tap the outside of the clutch. If it engages, the clutch gap is to great when it warms up.
There is a simple fix for the clutch gap you can do at home in less than 1/2 hour:

The above link only works if the gap is already over .04 inch.
PS. The dealer is trying to make a lot of money, when it comes to AC problems always go to a local AC speciality shop. Half the price and twice the results.
