which oil - no easy answer 850

There are a thousand answers on this one, every "internet expert" has his opinion and his data sample of one to prove his point. I suggest use normal organic oil and change it and the filter on an aggressive basis. If you are in a brutally cold climate, like the US Midwest, or do heavy-duty work like pulling a trailer, use synthetic oil. That is the recommendation in the owner's manual of the 1999 V70 USA model.
