I have 150K miles on my 850 and have always used Mobil 1 synthetic and change it every 5K--use the Mobil 1 filter also. Lots of opinions on this issue, but from what I read, synthetic will not build up sludge like dino and is much more resistant to viscosity breakdown. Additionally and most importantly, synthetic clings to the metal much longer after shut down which means you have less friction in those brief seconds after startup. And my manual says synthetic is highly recommended...
