Catalytic converter S70 1998

Your friend should also know that when a cat gets clogged, you will not be able to rev the engine. Your cat is OK, you are just putting a lot of oil into your exhaust and it is accumulating on the back of the car.
You could take it to a real mechanic and get a wet/dry compression test to check the rings. But with 200K, I would suspect it is just the valve guides letting oil pass through and then burning the oil. There are 20 valve guides, so it is not a cheap operation to remove the head and "fix" it.
Just keep a few spare quarts/liters of oil in the trunk and top it off when you fill up with gasoline.
