Thank you, one and all, for the help :) Turned out to be the window switch indeed. Got that replaced, and the driver front window goes up without issue. The brake light issue turned out to be the brake light switch at the pedal. The switch was replaced, a new (used) left tail light assembly was installed, and the car has functioning brake lights once again. Have a most wonderful evening! :)
