Snow traction XC90

It's the weight of the XC90, close to 5,000lbs, Vs the weight of the XC70, less than 4,000lbs. Plus the extra width of the tread on the XC90 which wants to keep the tire on top of the snow.
Of course, snow tires would help if the snow was deep. But, 1 inch isn't considered "snow". You are slipping on a layer of ice caused by driving over the snow and packing it down.

My neighbor had the same problem with her XC90. She traded it in for a BMW X5.
