quick question about switches and voltmeter . . . What's the rule about testing switches and measuring ground / continuity? Should there be continuity between terminals ever? When switch is on / closed or when switch is off / open?
I'm trying to test the Throttle Position Sensor on 1995 850. There are 3 terminals. One is 5 v in from harness; one is the output from sensor (0.6 v - 4.2 v). I guess the other would be a ground(?) but I'm not sure. Should there necessarily be continuity between any 2 of those terminals (w/ switch removed from car).
I have reference values for the resistance between 2 of the terminals w/ switch connected in car, as measured at computer/ECU (via a "measuring unit" that dealer has -- I have no capacity to measure at ECU). I can only test with switch removed -- should the resistance be the same between those terminals as when connected in car?
