850 abs question

i do remember reading that the abs units started to fail in 1996 but my car seems to be victim of similar symptoms. the reason i'm not sure if the odometer gear is broken is because it used to stop working and then start again intermittenly but for the past few months it just hasn't started working again. any other ideas, or are you pretty sure it's the gear?
