Dear Steve,
You are correct, some dealers would not install H-tires on cars with specified for V-tires.
I think this is all non-sense given that in the U.S. the speed limit is 55-65 mph and by the time you are at 80 mph, you run the risk of getting a ticket, so for me, even H-rated tires are fine.
I have done lots of reserach into tires and know quite a bit about this subject. You can also look at Consumers Reports re tires.
There are more than just H or V rated etc. These are:
Traction A or B
Temp A or B
Radial or Bias etc.
For me the Lemans tires serve the purpose:
1.Cheap ($45 + installation)
2.Quality is excellent, as good as Michelin
(Just look at the spec: how many layers, rial etc.)
3.I have had it for a year and it is great.
All I can tell you is the next time I go for 4 new tires, it will be Lemans.
The Volvo dealer or Costco (in my case) would not install H-rated tires on Volvo, which is spcified with V-rated. This is for liability reason.
But my local Bridgestone dealer did install the tire for me. The traction is better with the Lemans tire than the Michelin MXV.
To answer the other post: for me whatever speedrating V or H and whatever mph (149 mph) has little meaning for me, unless you are involved in racing.
