Thanks for your response. The only thing I want to be sure about is when you
"carefully hacksaw the strike (U-shaped wire) that the latch hooks into".

Can you actually see what you are attempting to cut or is it a guess?

Are the screws that hold the face to the backplate on the inside?

Did you use a "fine" hacksaw blade by itself, with no handle?
