Hi,
My wife's 94 855T, 112kmi, has been exhibiting some intermittent problems over the last few months.
- inability to shift transmission out of Park (traditional failed microswitch symptom)
- occasional lack of backup lights
At first I'd thought it might be the microswitch, but it was replaced on recall and I spent an afternoon trying to get it to fail (had console taken apart) and couldn't get it. It has not been replaced.
Then, I thought possibly it was the electrical portion of the ignition switch, but the symptoms don't seem to be just right for that. For example, when I wiggle the key, it doesn't necessarily make the tranny any easier to get out of Park (although sometimes it does). This also wouldn't seem to affect the backup lights.
So, I'm wondering if it might be the PNP switch. I pulled codes on the transmission control unit and got all 1s. But that doesn't mean there's not a problem. Is there a diagnostic procedure one can go through to check out the PNP switch?
Thanks!
