On the bolts I pushed until I felt a click then went to the next bolt in sequence and did the same to all 12. On the second pass I pushed through another click and about 1/8 turn on all 12 bolts. Then third pass turning bolts 1/4 turn. By then all the bolts were easy to turn out.
One thing that I noticed was that the outside bolts (1,2,3,4) were the tightest and the inside were the easiest to loosen. Could this be the cause of the gasket failure given that the inside bolts were not clamping as tight as the outside. I'm considering tightening the inside bolts a little more than spec when I put things back together.
Any recomendations for cleaning the piston crowns? 1, 4, and 5 have a heavy carbon buildup.
I'm assuming that I can rotate the crank as long as I put it back to TDC before installing the head.
Thanks.
