Buy the V70. The ETM issue is a 10 yr, 200,000 mi warranty item. No big deal.
If you're worried about the 01 transmission problem, buy an extended warranty. For $8K go for the wagon. I have an 01 V70 T5 with 124,000 mi on it with no ETM issues. The trans may be another issue but not for several thousand more miles and can be cured with an extended warranty. Go for the wagon.
