possible charging problem V70-XC70 2000

These things always happen the day before a long weekend. My wife was stranded this morning when our V70 failed to start. She said it wouldn't turn over. I went to rescue her. Battery voltage was 12.06. I turned the key and the car started. She said she tried about ten times and it wouldn't start. With the engine idling, battery voltage was 13.7. This seems low. I would expect 14 volts or higher, my 2002 Ranger shows 14.7 volts at idle.
Is there an easy fix if it is the alternator? On my past RWD Volvos, it was easy to replace the brush/regulator unit on the back of the alternator. Any ideas will be appreciated.
Thanks and Happy New Year.
Alan
