Re: Camshaft sensor 850 1994

On a '98 S70 GLT I had the crankshaft position sensor replaced under warranty as a result of a check engine light and a dealer diagnosis.

This happened again within 6 monnths. But this time I recalled doing the not-recommended "start it up and back it out and shut it off" scenario.

The Check engine light came on again later after I started it up and it ran a little rough and made some light smoke.

Again the dealer said "bad crank position sensor".

I find it hard to believe that two of those things went bad.

I think it was due to not running the car for several minutes after starting it up. The car runs fine and I have not had that sensor replaced.

I posted a comment here a month or so ago about it, and got a reply that these engines start rich and if it does not get cleared out it can wet the plugs resulting in a no-start, as you had.

So I am wondering if you had that start up and shut off scenario prior

to your problem. These things seem to be related, and we have been warned about the start up and shut off scenario.

Rich
