Holy CRAP! You guys have both got like a whole foot on me - I'm 5'7" and 145 lbs, and haven't grown in years. I bet you're good at basketball though =D

Anyway, there is also a cable inside the door that runs from the interior door handle to the latch mechanism itself. Mine was starting to tear when I took apart mine to fix a door check - I stapled the heck out of the cable & fixed the plastic holder as well. I know it's probably not your problem, but it is something you may want to have a look at while you're in there and conjure up a fix for so it won't break in the future.
