I don't know what the 'L' hose is either - possibly the elbow on the pass side of the intake manifold?
Regardless, it is always advisable to check for vacuum and/or PCV leaks if you are experiencing problems - esp unexplained ones.
Do some searching to learn about the 'propane' method.
Or you could have a shop do a 'smoke' test to find any leaks.
Or just pull everything apart and replace every section of hose one-by-one like I did. It will be an afternoon well spent both in terms of getting to know your engine and ensuring safety when you and your family are out on the road.
