Drive Cycle vs. Sensor Readiness C70 1998

I've never quite gotten the Drive cycle to set, but I did *eventually* get all but one of my sensor to read OK. I had to clear a code for a replacement O2 sensor, and this put me back to square one.

I asked about this before but don't think I've ever gotten a clear response.
Will the drive cycle set if the sensors are not ready?

Does the drive cycle set sequence have ANYTHING at all to do with getting the sensors to read OK or Ready??

I've been assuming that they did, but I'm thinking that is an incorrect assumption...

Can someone please shed some light on the relationship between these two aspects of OBDII??
