Okay it's a 93 850. I'm replacing a squealing power steering pump w/ a rebuilt. Read up on the procedure: the bolts are PB'ed and ready to go.
My concern: clean fluid
I want to replace the fluid before swapping the pump out cuz I'm certain the fluid has been contaminated w/ PS fluid. As I read elsewhere I disconnect the return line, attach clear tubing (for visual confirmation) Remove as much old fluid from the resevoir w/o letting air into the lines, top off resevoir with dextron 3 ATF and when I turn the wheel from full left to full right the fluid will drain from the return line into my handy waste container/ Keep checkng and adding fluid to keep air outta lines and when the tubing is running w/ "pure" ATF as indicated by color I'm done. Remove the old pump replace w/ new one, turn wrenches, top off and good to go.
Correct??
I assume the engine is NOT running during the fluid changeover just turn the steering wheel.
What did I miss??
Thanks for any suggestions/advice/cautions
