Problems after clearing clogged EGR 850

Thanks Klaus,

I wondered about the function of the EGR valve.
The Volvo dealer parts guy says that they're robust and he doesn't
sell many. Then it was full of junk and maybe got stuck open killing the vacuum intermittantly? Is it normal to be funky for a while after cleaning out that crud?

My diagnosis was made further confusing since I power washed lotsa crap
with the intake manifold off and the ports taped up. The plug wires and distributor might have got too much H2O.

The engine runs smooth except at idle where it's nasty.
The brakes have been indicating intermittant huge vacuum leak.
