Throttle cable question pre 1999

The CC used to be reasonably good, the turbo makes up for not knowing a hill is coming :)

I unplugged the line at the pump and sucked on it, it actually moved the throttle a little with a LOT of vacuum on my part!!! I just wondered if things are just getting old, like my throttle cable which is showing signs of aging - cracks and rust.
