My understanding (from John O.)was that solid tappets came out in '99 on the turbo models because of the variable valve timing on the exhaust valves.

I thought that meant that '99 NA models still had hydraulic tappets, but don't '99 NA models also have variable valve timing on the intake valves? If so, what does that do to the theory that you can't use hydraulic tappets on VVT motors?
