no reverse on my 850 wagon! 850

Good luck, may she go another 160k (at least).

If you haven't brought her in, and you (and your uncle) are feeling frisky, why not try to replace it yourself? It is a big job, don't get me wrong, but you'll save 1000 or so.

Read this PDF and see what you think: http://rapidshare.com/files/422334927/replacing_transmission.pdf

Yep its a big job, but doable.

If you're game, I'd recommend you head to VA beach Pick'n'Pull. It looks like they have a few 850's on the lot, and they'll lend you the hoist. I'd plan on spending the whole day there getting the engine out and the transmission off. It looks like the transmission will cost ya about $100 plus 30 for core (I doubt you'll be returning it since its a hike back, but who knows). Taking it outta a car will also be a nice learning experience on what you'll have to do when, or if, you do yours. The nice thing about junkyard cars, is that if you damage something else it doesn't really matter (except to the guy who comes looking for that part later, but the PnP's usually crush the cars within a month or two so..) and if the job appears to be out of your capability, you've just wasted some time and gas money..

If you're not driving it "like its stolen," are you really driving?
