How there related, I don't know the answer. I can postulate a few theories, but it'd just be (educated) guessing. Have you thouroughly checked codes, perhaps you might have one there for a speed sensor or throttle position sensor (those can also cause some surging). If you've got a junkyard nearby and $30-40 to spare you might condsider replacing them both just to save the hassle of ruling them out. Them being loose (check the condition of the cable too) might shake them slightly loose (the TPS is just a hall sensor, so it has to be close to the engine to work properly...).
Do the leakdown test as one of the last things. If you can't find oil from anywhere else, and you're want to know, then do it.
You've done the dipstick test right? After you've driven the car for a while leave it running and pull out the oil dipstick. If it smokes you've got positive pressure in the system. That'll mean cleaning/replacing components. Twist off the flametrap on the intake valve, perhaps its just filled with crud...
What kind of oil do you use anyway? If you're one of those environmental types who uses 0-30 (or 0 anything, really) that could explain the leaking.
The more you do the pcv job the faster you can do it.. I think I'm down to a little over an hour... (I don't know if thats good or bad..)
Let me know how the investigation goes

If you're not driving it "like its stolen," are you really driving?
