Re: Week after 15K service, check engine light. S70 99

Gramps,

Our 1999 XC had a similar incident - twice. Actually, the first time the CE light came on was on a trip and it was about 750 miles before we got it to the dealer. The O2 sensor had died, causing the CE light. They repaired that and on the way home from that repair the CE light came on again (after 8 miles). So, back to the dealership. This time it was the Mass Air sensor. They repaired it - all under warranty.

Then, a month or so later we had just taken off for Yellowstone and the CE light came on again. Well, there ain't no Volvo repair facilities between Reno, NV and Yellowstone unless you want to stop in Salt Lake City, about 250 miles out of the way. So, we soldiered on. There was no noticable difference in performance or fuel milage - just a nice orange glow from the CE light. After 1,500 miles we took it back to the dealer, they repaired it (another Mass Air sensor bites the dust) and all is well.

Based on that, I'd say you stand very little chance of doing any damage by continuing to drive it.
