'01 S60 Rough Running S60

My son's 2001 S60 turbo with manual transmission idles ok, and there are no error codes stored, but runs rough when above 2k rpm. In most any gear, if you hold the accelerator pedal in one position, there are rapid, frequent hesitations. I can't see the tach drop, but you can definitely feel it in the car. The car accelerates great. Can anyone tell me where to start looking? I replaced the plugs, and have plenty of experience with 240's, 740's, 940's, & 960's, but I don't know where to start on this thing 'cause the engine sits 90 degrees to what I'm used to!
