That's why mechanics use brake cleaner to get rid of oil. Using water/soap to clean the engine bay is not a good idea, the bay is full of electronics and they are water resistant - not water proof.
The first time I cleaned an 850 of dust, the spark plug holes wound up with 4 inches of water in them. And, yes, the black plastic cover was in place. Wicking water out of the holes and letting things dry allowed the car to run again.
40 lashes with a wet noodle! Let the electrics dry for a few days and hope things get back to normal.
