Want a fast car? A fast car that can be reasonably insured and isn't cop bait? That will cruise comfortably all day long at 85mph, invisible to enforcement, and run door-to-door with cars that cost over $40G?
Here's what you do. Look in the "Classifieds" section of your local newspaper. Find a good, clean, low mileage 242 turbo with a manual transmission and all service records. Replace the clutch, rear bushings, blower motor. Install Bilsteins and IPD bars 'n braces. You now have a car that is capable of going from a standstill to 60mph in 8.5 seconds, that handles as well as a 911, and that is safer than most new cars. Want to go faster still? Turn up the boost a couple of notches. Install an aftermarket exhaust and cam. You can easily mod the b21ft to produce upwards of 220hp. It is also one of the most bullet-proof engines you'll find in a production car. Forged rods and crank, real cast iron block. The "white" engines that Volvo has been putting in its FWD/AWD cars are shit. Bent con rods at 70K miles??!! Please! I have a co-worker that owns an '82 244T with over 230,000 miles on the original engine and turbocharger. Doesn't burn a drop of oil, still passes smog, and still eats ricerockets for lunch.
