There is a little cover by the underhood fuse panel (driver's side rear). The battery cable connects to the fuse panel there. Hook a trickle charger to the cable (+) and the ground to the engine block. Remove the ground cable from the battery first.
The original battery in Mary's '04 V70 would not start it at -28F, so it was time. Fully charged voltage was only 12.5V, S.G. was even in all the cells, but only 1.125-1.150. Local NAPA had 3 choices 7847, 7848, 7849. the 7848 was the right size. The 7849 looked like it was 4" longer. The mount in the car would have accomidated the larger battery (it's Minnesota. ya gotta want the biggest battery that will fit...). The NAPA battery has a hole in the proper location for the OEM vent tube and a plug for the vent hole on the other end of the battery. It also has accessible caps so you can add water and check the specific gravity.
