Just curious, what is it V70-XC70 1998

My "R" is missing the air dam, guess I should buy a new one. What is interesting is a set of electrical wires going to a black box (1 in square) that is attached to the front of the subframe. What is it? It is not a temperature sensor and looks to come from the factory that way. Mine is coated in dirt and oil and I was thinking of cleaning it off with electrical spray. Once the air dam is in place it will be out of sight.
