The steering boot at the bottom of the steering shaft where it goes through the fire wall has a plastic bearing just under the top of the boot, if you push down on the boot you can work the bearing out of the boot, it can be taken off the shaft, cleaned, grease and replace in the boot. This normally does more than help, it gets rid of the squeeking noise in the steering wheel shaft. When the noise is there it sounds like its coming from the plastic covers behind the steering wheel.
