If there is no engine vibration and the noise can only be heard in the engine compartment, could it be the cabin blower? Just turn it off/on to check.

My only other suggestion would be to take a close look at the exhaust manifold gasket and the flexible part of the down pipe. Both of these will make more noise in the cabin than in the engine compartment.
