Did he drive a long distance again?
Could be heat related.
The mechanic may want to check the relay box connected to the shock tower. It houses most of the 'major' relays for system power, ignition power, etc. and if one of those is getting flakey... Or perhaps the wiring from the relay socket(s) has a problem.
Basic check of the power cables going to/from the battery? I think there's some junction where the '+' cable splits into 2 or 3. I had a 340 once where this part failed.
I think the ECU can log a power 'event', but I'm not sure.
Umm.. Just thought about this: immobilizer!
The mechanic may want to check the antenna ring around the ignition lock.. These do sometimes (randomly) fail on cars of all ages. Initial symptoms often include difficult starting.
Pure guesswork here..
Bye, Arno.
