99 out of 100, it is the cigarette lighter that is at fault. Autoparts stores carry them, including the ones with the light ring at the base. Probably less than $10.
The contacts get bent out of shape with all of the devices people plug into them and changes in temperature will cause to metal to contract/expand, which makes a good contact worse.
When the device you want to plug in stopps getting electricity, check the lighter out by probing with your light tester - key must be in posI or II.
