Too many strange clues. The engine died: did the timing belt break? That can cause the valves to stop the pistons.
The starter motor works, but doesn't engage the flywheel??? That would make for a very high pitched whine.
The car wheels locked up and will not turn? Is the car in gear? Where is the gear shift lever positioned?
Did you tow the car with the front wheels on the ground?
