Engine stalls upon starting V70-XC70 2004

Ditto with the filter pointing the wrong way. The fuel pump is in the tank, just behind the right rear passenger. There is an arrow on the filter, which should point to the front of the car.

The check valve should be working. Loosing pressure is normal after turn off, that is why the pump primes the pressure when you move the key to posII.
