You just make sure you have the star screw drivers , and remove all screws all from the instrument cluster . ( you must know how to remove it from dash board , visit volvospeed.com ) after remove the center electronic board (which is green ), you will be able to see a small gearbox with motor in the center of it , which is controll the odometer , try to remove the odometer gearbox , and remove the small motor with two small cross (+) screws , then you will get it ! there is must be a broken tiny plastic gear in it , replace it with new one , remenber lubricate it before install (maybe with wd-40) .

the most important is , you must ensure the gear you replaced is good connect with the gears around it , and try to rotate the motor rotor while insert the odometer gearbox and 'make sure' odometer will go while to rotor rotate .
