We have an 850 and an S70 and both batteries failed before

reaching year 4. Local dealer also uses Interstate batteries

and that was used to replace the OEM batteries.

Your 98 may have been built in early 97 (mine was) and the

battery may be older then you think. The build date is on

the inside of the drivers door.

Posts on this board indicate 4 years is about tops for

the stock battery.

By the way, heat is the biggest killer for car batteries.
